Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold heraldic sunburst bearing a scarlet Greek cross charged with a gold fleur-de-lis all above a semi-circular maroon scroll divided into two sections, turned and folded back at each end and inscribed "COURAGE CONCERN" in gold letters.

Symbolism
The heraldic sunburst alludes to the healing rays of the sun, strength and good health.  The cross, a symbol of aid and assistance, represents the 5010th United States Army Hospital.  The fleur-de-lis, symbolizing the early French influence on the area represents the location of the Hospital at Louisville, Kentucky.  The color scarlet symbolizes courage, gold represents achievement, while maroon is a color used for the Army Medical Department.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 4 March 1976.
